Big slut

Big slut

First of all, I am sorry for the title. This is the title to the poem I wrote earlier this day. It’s all about the miscommunication of my son. Instead of talking about een grote flat (a big flat), he talked about a grote slet (big slut).

Explanation

The Dutch word flat  is the same as the English word for an appartment building. In Dutch the word slet is the same as slut. This miscommunication happend a few years ago, when my son was one year old. Yes, I know, he talked at a very early age (9 months to be precise).

A big slut

Big slut

I said to the girl on the street we just passed,
who was just as flabbergast
as I was at that moment.
This is how the conversation went.

Excuse me, miss, for what he said.
He’s one year old, didn’t mean that!
My son screamed did see
even higher than a tree,
a big slut.
Nothing to do but
to explain the Dutch word for flat
is easily confused with slet.

She wasn’t in any way a slet or a slut,
his words were  not appropriate.
The girl, she didn’t know that,
that’s why she got so mad.

As we walked further, my son asked me
Daddy, can’t you see
wore a skirt higher than her knee.
I was thinking about his comment
and could only smile about this moment.
