Inspiration to write

Oh yes, love is a wonderful thing. The strength of love, can make you move mountains. That wonderful feeling of being in love. Isn’t it marvellous?

Unless… the relationship ends or the love comes only from one side. Then love isn’t that wonderful anymore. It causes heartbreak and pain. People can become seriously ill, because of this. Love is a wonderful, but delicate thing. When it breaks, so do the lovers in a way. Or at least, one of them will break.

Unfortunately, the memories of the relationship don’t vanish. You carry them with you and they can be a burden. It can hold you back in future relationships. Dani tells us the story through poetry, where she encounters these flashbacks. These moments when she thinks about the one who left her. You want to move on, but a part of you will always stay with the person you broke up with or the person that broke up with you.

Time heals, unfortunately not every wound. This is what the poem Can’t get clean leans on. These basic emotions can cause sadness, even after a long time. This is because of the impact love has on someone’s life.

The poem written by Dani tells us, that cleansing is in no way an option. These memories stay with you. In her case, she writes out to the one she broke up with. She is in no way going to fade away and in no way, the one who he is with now can do this for him.

Can’t get clean

Can’t get clean

Like coffee stains
and cigarette smoke
Like dirt on knees
and lipstick on your throat

I will not be erased
with ease
I cannot be excised
You’ve been tainted
by my love, dear

Polish, scrub and rinse
till bloodied fingers
She’ll never get
you clean again
