About the poem

The poem is about my aging father. I express my regret for not having been able to give him enough time and love. He took me in as his own, gave me his name and has been the biggest pillar of my life. I feel, I was selfish and stupid and failed as a daughter. I share this here urging and reminding everyone that we owe who we are, to our parents. Let’s not forget that.

Dear father

Dear father

I wish I were there
for the time slipping
out of your hands
like sand,
life silently tiptoeing out
and you quietly growing old.
I regret my selfish ways,
so self-involved growing up
I forgot I would always be
your little girl
and you’ll always be my only man!
