Under the pen name L’ecritureféminine the Indonesian poetess Maia Aruna decided to write about feminism. Her motivation to start this account was based on her own experiences. This is the poem Feminine mystique.
L’Ecriture Féminine or L’ecritureféminine
For those of you, who don’t speak French, the name of the Instagram account that Maia started is a reference to women who write. There are lots of women who write (poetry). When it comes to this account, the owner wants to focus on the female body in -what she calls- the postmodern feminism tradition. As we are in favor of equality, where there is no boundary when it comes to gender equality, we can only support Maia’s new profile. It is actually more of a project, than a profile.
The poems on her website are well written and short. She tries to use less words, in order to make sure these poems are strong enough.
L’ecritureféminine is a form of criticism aimed at the standards about women and girls. When girls grow up, they are forced to marry, to start a family life and to move their own dreams to the background. Unfortunately, this is common around the world.
We asked her about the name. Of course, she knows about the missing spaces. She did this on purpose, to make the words as one; a whole body (and soul).
The poem is a reminder of how people are quick to judge. In this poem, the character tells us, that her scars on her abdomen aren’t from childbirth, though many would assume this. Yes, she considers herself to be a mother. The children she refers to, have fled and are long gone, before they were born. This could be the cause of miscarriages or is it a deeper philosophy of the woman’s body?

everyone thinks I am a mother
but I am mother earth
my children, they fled long
before they were born
