Analysis

It’s not every day that we receive a poem with an own analysis written by the poet. The poet went the extra mile, to explain what his poem is about. We decided to quote Shakkan since it shows what he wants to bring forward in his poem:

I wrote Moondance after listening to a Lo-fi mix on YouTube. A lo-fi tune played as I was in the middle of writing “Prose Poem” so I looked at the name of the current tune and it read “Moondance”. I fell in love with the tune as words started dancing in my mind. I begin writing my poem Moondance.

I will explain Moondance the way I use it for those who are wondering what is a Moondance. Moondance is nothing but, but gazing at the moon and stars at night. The mind looks at the stars and puts together constellations as you spin your body (or head) and a new constellation will appear. The moon is the icing on the cake as it is the centre of attention letting off the lightest.

In the opening sentence of the poem

“Moondance, Moondance, I kept this dance a secret”.

This opening takes me back to the Summer of 2015 when I was going through an up and down relationship with my girlfriend (Now is my ex). We were together, but one night I met this beautiful woman at a local store and I begin talking to her. We started vibing as if we knew each other forever. So she invited me to sit on her porch and talk. (She stayed across the street from the store and up the street from my place) I gladly took that offer.

I remember this like it was yesterday and as we sat on the porch eating cookies and drinking kool-aid we started looking up the clear night sky as the stars and moonlight shine down upon us. We begin conversing about the beauty of the moon and stars also the shapes that stars would form together as we turned our heads. My phone begins ringing and it was my girlfriend at the time calling and I declined so she thinks I am busy. I kept what I was out doing a secret from her believing I was having a good time on the porch with this other woman.

All it is, is I keeping that secret from the girl I was dating at the time.

“Moondance, Moondance, may I take a Gemini by the hand and swirl in circles as her twin sits like it’s detention and refuses to resonate with us under the night’s vibration.”

This takes me back to Winter of 2016 when I was dating a woman who’s astrology sign is a Gemini. She had to sides of her which was sweet and compassionate and then the other which was bitchy and naggy. She and I were coming from a night out on a date and we started talking about her past and my past. The sweet and compassionate side of her was present as her naggy and bitchy mood was absent. Her and I were resonating under the stars and moon and a bond was tightened between us.

“Moondance, moondance, beauty is dancing while the beast is singing as we come together as our feet begin sweeping away the undivine dust that kept us from feeling the vibrations that was much needed.”

This part here explains the beautiful night during my depression (Beast is singing) My depression was loud and wouldn’t stop singing my blues. So after I got off work that night my close woman friend and I went out to IHOP. Her and I being together helped rid the old grimy feelings I was having ( Undivine Dust) I needed her vibe (Vibrations that was much needed).

“Moondance, Moondance, the music never has to be the same, it’s the vibrations I am just saying I know you see this while you are pregnant with vibrations as you contemplate if this poetic dance really about you and you are many inspirations.”

This one goes back to the Gemini I was dating late 2016 (We broke up early 2017). We were cool after the breakup, but after that, we stopped talking due to me breaking my phone and refusing to pay my phone so I went without speaking to her for almost another year. 2018 comes and I find out she is pregnant (Pregnant with vibrations) by her close friend. So I added her on Facebook and purposely made that stanza for her. She had many inspirations for becoming an artist and creating music.

“Moondance, Moondance, I just want dance one more time before the sun is here again.”

This goes back to the Gemini woman again. She still has plans on moving to Arizona and the last time I spoke to her she was planning on moving to Arizona and this was during the day, so I want to speak to her one more time under stars and moon before she leaves for Arizona one of these days.

Moondance

Moondance, Moondance, I kept this dance a secret cause it’s only to be used during nights in Houston so stand at a distance between two canyons and watch the stars spin as your body begins dancing to the world’s vibration. Lift your feet every three seconds as your heart starts to beat to the moon’s vibration. Grab a partner and resonate your souls under the star light’s vibration.

Moondance, Moondance, may I take a Gemini by the hand and swirl in circles as her twin sits like it’s detention and refuses to resonate with us under the night’s vibration.

Foster the twin with my moondance, you can do this, come under the stars and dance with your soul friends, because in the end we are more than just friends with hearts that just wants to dance.

Moondance, moondance, beauty is dancing while beast is singing as we come together as our feet begin sweeping away the undivine dust that kept us from feeling the vibrations that was much needed.

Moondance, moondance, the music never has to be the same, it’s the vibrations I am just saying I know you see this while you are pregnant with vibrations as you contemplate if this poetic dance really about you and you are many inspirations.

Moondance, Moondance, I just want dance one more time before the sun is here again.
