About She’s freedom

This poem describes the daughter of Harm Jagerman. In a way, it is possible to see beyond the photograph he took. In a way, this poem is for all those girls who dress differently. Those girls, who should be free to make their own choices.

“When my daughter saw her new Viking outfit, on that day in April, she decided that’s what she needed to wear. I believe that everyone should be able to make their own decisions when it comes to the clothes they wear. Unfortunately, in some cases, girls aren’t allowed to wear what they want. They aren’t supposed to think for themselves. I wish for every girl (and woman) that she has the ability to make own decisions. Decisions that are based on what they are and who they are.

Unfortunately, not every girl or woman in this world can do what my daughter did on that day in April. Or on any given day. That is such a shame!”

This poem is meant to inspire those who are oppressed. That, one day, the gift of freedom can be theirs too.

She's freedom

She’s freedom

I

Freedom is
the way you want to act
Ignore those who will react
with negativity
to your creativity
Freedom is
dressing different every day
Just the way
you want to dress
Ignore those protests

II

It’s fine you see
One day a princess
The next day you flee
into another dress
One day a rock star
or a superstar
And today this striking
Viking

III

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
who is the bravest,
dearest,
cutest,
I ‘ve ever witnessed?
Who, mirror, mirror on the wall,
who’s sweetest
of them all?
Well, there is a lot of sweetness
and neatness,
but dressed as a Viking,
I have to be the one to acknowledge:
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
she’s all those things lovely
She is the most precious of them all
She represents Free
She’s freedom
– anything but boredom
An adventuresome
little girl in this kingdom

She’s freedom!
