Stars

It’s somewhat different for me. When I write for The Ministry of Poetic Affairs, there is the need to introduce the poems I post. I am used to the fact that I can just post my poems on my website, I just post what I wrote. Since this is not the way things are done here, an introduction to the poem Star is necessary.

I suppose many of you know about the saying If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I am not really sure if this is the right phrase. The essence is still the same. If bad things in life come on your path, you can try bending them into good things. I know, this is not always possible. For instance, when I was ill (really ill), there was not much time for this lemonade. Except for the disgusting substance I had to drink during the chemo therapy.

There are many bad things in life. Things that can make you very sad. This poem is my advice, not only for myself. It is also for others who need to try. Giving up is easy. Going on is hard. I know, believe me, I know. It’s all about picking yourself up and retry. This is very hard to do at sometimes. Then I hope, you will find some comfort in my words. Isn’t that what poetry is also about? Hope in words from others.

Star

Star

I climbed, but I could not see
The distance was too far
Minutes passing me
It seemed so bizarre
It wasn’t fair
I tried once more, but I did not succeed
and the next time, we should meet,
I will try some more,
although it’s pretty far,
this bright shiny star.
