I read some beautiful poems during the free time I had this weekend. As I had to do a lot of studying, I didn’t have much time to write myself. This weekend I read some poems that I think are worth sharing.
One of the most important subjects for poets to write about is missing. Missing of people, missing of events. You name it. To miss something is an important emotion. It forms the basis of many poems.
Up All Night
By Jeff Galvez
Rushed into love, with someone in love with another.
What has me up all night, what has me so restless at night.
What has me so distressed at night.
So messed up I’m not sure what to do kinda night.
Thoughts of a future,
thoughts of a family,
thoughts of running just to hold you all night.
Yeah my mind, my mind runs away to you.
I loose control and can’t seem to find my way back to sane.
So this has me up all night.
Up all night.
The very thought of you takes my mind away.
Away to a better place, away to a better way.
I can see how this ends.
Every time I see you I realize how much I need you.
How much I need just a sign from you.
Is the thought of this alright for me to feel or wrong to even think of you.
Let’s go to something with a more positive vibe. Spring is near. Well on this side of the world it is. This poem shows, that poems don’t have to be very long. The poem of Funom Makama makes me smile.
By Funom Makama
Nature’s wake from sleep
Life flirts with beauty
a time for flowers to flaunt
Reading poems like these, it makes me want spring even more! It also wants me to win something. No, I am not thinking about material things. I am just in need of this feeling, this mood, this mind-set or whatever.
The Will To Win
If you want a thing bad enough
To go out and fight for it,
Work day and night for it,
Give up your time and your peace and your sleep for it
If only desire of it
Makes you quite mad enough
Never to tire of it,
Makes you hold all other things tawdry
and cheap for it
If life seems all empty and useless without it
And all that you scheme and you dream is about it,
If gladly you’ll sweat for it,
Fret for it, Plan for it,
Lose all your terror of God or man for it,
If you’ll simply go after that thing that you want.
With all your capacity,
Strength and sagacity,
Faith, hope and confidence, stern pertinacity,
If neither cold poverty, famished and gaunt,
Nor sickness nor pain
Of body or brain
Can turn you away from the thing that you want,
If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it,
You’ll get it!
