Your smartphone as an editor for images and photos

You don’t need a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud when you want to edit your images and photos on your smartphone. As a writer or poet, you should really consider adding images and photos to your poems. Especially when you want to post them on social media. What are the options to consider?

You don’t need a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud when you want to edit your images and photos on your smartphone. As a writer or poet, you should really consider adding images and photos to your poems. Especially when you want to post them on social media. What are the options to consider?

Adobe Creative Cloud offers a wide variety when it comes to image- and photo editing. Many of these applications are designed to be used on a desktop computer or a laptop. There are apps designed to be used on mobile devices though. You can find a complete list on this website. The problem with these apps: there isn’t a possibility to add texts to your images and photos. If you think you can do without these texts, then Adobe offers free apps. What if you do want to add text? Then you will have to check out the apps described below.

In 2017, we reviewed this app for you (click here for this review). Over the last few months, this app changed. These changes caused the app to function slower than before. When you use the free version of the app, you will find working with this app less easy. This is caused by the ads that are shown. A simple action to save something you made, results in two or three ads that are shown full screen.

SnapSnapseedSnapseed

Originally this app started as an independent company in 2011. One year later, Google took over and the Android version was launched. Before that, there was only a version for iOS.

The app is free to use, has many different options and is basically a very good alternative for the paid versions of image- and photo editors.

Although the app isn’t updated since 2017, this is still a very good app to use. Sometimes this app functions a little bit slow.

Unfortunately, the app isn’t available on iOS. It’s only available for users of Android devices.

As far as we could tell, this app doesn’t display ads. It only “nags” about supplying feedback (rates) on Google Play.

Foter.com

Fotor

Fotor presents itself as an online collage maker. There is more. It’s also an editor (yes, you can add text) and there are apps for Android and iOS.

The downside to this app: it asks you to buy plugins, add-ins or other things you need to download for editing your images.

Photo Effects Pro

Based on the website – we didn’t install this app- this seems to be a true open source attempt to offer an image- and photo editor. Unfortunately, it’s not: it contains ads.

The website that is used as the official distributor website is actually a website on Blogger.

Your choice?

We could make the list even longer. We decided to highlight five options to choose from. Yes, the list of apps is very long. We are always interested to read what your choice is. Leave a comment or send us your suggestion.

For now, if we must advise you to install one of these five apps: we think Snapseed will do the trick for you when it comes to combining images and photos with the texts of your poems.
